Edinburgh Road Club Cyclist Breaks Record

Graham Jones a member of the Edinburgh Road Club sponsored by Field and Lawn Marquees broke the Scottish 24 hour time trial record this year. At only his second attempt at the event, Graham smashed the existing Scottish veterans record and became the rider to record the highest distance travelled by a Scot in a 24 hour Time Trial on a push bike. An amazing 466.2 miles were covered in the time.

Only a mere 20 minutes were spent off the bike that day changing in and out of night clothes, affixing lights and for going to the loo. The rest of the time was spent relentlessly pushing the pedals around and trying to remain in as aerodynamic a position as possible.

In order to fuel himself for this epic ride, a complex mix of high carbohydrate drinks, rice pudding and bananas were used. These were handed up by a support crew waiting at the side of the road. This allowed Graham to continue riding continuously, only slowing down to grab some sustenance on the way past.

Speaking after the event, Graham commented "I'm absolutely elated to have ridden so far, but it's going to take a few days for my body to recover" We think that's a massive understatement as most of us would struggle to cover that distance on a motor bike in one day.

Field and Lawn Marquees have been proud sponsors of the Edinburgh road club (one of the UK's biggest cycle clubs with over 600 members) for the last 4 years.
